  9. Welcome to the fourth update to CygnusEd Professional Release 4. This document
  10. describes  which  changes were made to CygnusEd and its associated files since
  11. Version 4.2 of the editor was published in October 1997:

  21. This distribution contains patches for the following files:
  22.  
  23.    - CygnusEd text editor (both the plain 68k and the 020+ version)
  24.    - MetaMac macro editor
  25.    - RecoverCEDFiles crash recovery utility
  26.  
  27. In addition to this, new versions of the following files are provided:
  28.  
  29.    - Online help (CygnusEd_Manual.guide)
  30.    - German language support files (drawer "Catalogs/deutsch")
  31.    - Localization files (see drawer "Localization")

  34. - 2. Updating ----------------------------------------------------------------
  35. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  36. The   update   program   requires  that  you  insert  the  original  "CygnusEd
  37. Professional Release 4" CD into your CD-ROM drive. The CD icon must be visible
  38. in  the Workbench window. The update procedure itself looks very much like the
  39. CygnusEd  installation process, but it cannot completely replace it. Thus, you
  40. must have CygnusEd installed before you can update it.

  43. - 3. Changes -----------------------------------------------------------------

  45. The  following  section  lists  major  changes in the single updated programs.
  46. Minor technical details have been omitted.
  47.  
  48. CygnusEd_Professional 4.20 (27.2.99)
  49.  
  50. - Discovered that if text scrolling takes very long, you can actually
  51.   grab the window resize gadget and change the window size while
  52.   the display is being updated. With all its consequences. The code
  53.   now locks the window size before starting to scroll [Christopher Aldi].
  54.  
  55. - The text scrolling code now takes the line height into acount rather
  56.   than using "rule of thumb" defaults that work well really only with
  57.   topaz/8 [Christopher Aldi].
  58.  
  59. - Removed an extra WaitTOF() from the text scrolling code, which now
  60.   should perform just as responsively as the original assembly language
  61.   version [Christopher Aldi].
  62.  
  63. - Removed three DeleteDiskObject() calls which really shouldn't have
  64.   slipped into the 4.17 update. This fixes the problem of deleting
  65.   the icons of files to be overwritten.
  66.  
  67. - Added three new ARexx commands ADDROOM, REMROOM and LEAVEROOM.
  68.   All three take one parameter: the number of lines to work on.
  69.   If ADDROOM/REMROOM are called without any parameter, they will
  70.   use a default of one line. Now, what do these three commands
  71.   do? When running on a custom screen, these commands will tell
  72.   CygnusEd to make a little room above its first view. The
  73.   SAS/C scmsg program can use that room for its display without
  74.   overlapping any of the other views.

  76. - CygnusEd now sends all Shell and ARexx output to the same window
  77.   rather than reopening a new window on every occasion.
  78.  
  79. - The "change case word", "upper case word" and "lower case word"
  80.   now execute faster and take up less memory in the undo buffer.
  81.  
  82. - Added a new menu item which allows you to exchange the contents
  83.   of the search and replace buffers.
  84.  
  85. - Setting the custom tab positions no longer overwrites the
  86.   scroller [Niels Knoop].
  87.  
  88. - The CygnusEd version tag now also includes information on which
  89.   CPU type the program was created for [Niels Knoop].
  90.  
  91. - Changing the size of the font or the window now also
  92.   updates all scroller settings.
  93.  
  94. - Added a new option to the print requester: you can now specify
  95.   how many copies to print of the document in question. Each
  96.   copy will be separated from the others by a form feed
  97.   [Alexander Niven-Jenkins].
  98.  
  99. - Added new code to make the window size changes and editing
  100.   operations update the contents of all views involved,
  101.   matching their scrollers' position.
  102.  
  103. - Simplified the "idle" scrolling code a bit so that it no longer
  104.   fiddles with the cursor unless it really needs to.
  105.  
  106. - The search/replace requester now has a new menu item to exchange
  107.   the search and replace text with [Niels Knoop].
  108.  
  109. - Some of the defaults stored in the settings file would not take
  110.   effect after reloading, such as the scroller position (left or
  111.   right border, or disabled). They now work again properly.
  112.  
  113. - The editor now displays a proper error code if saving the
  114.   defaults file fails.
  115.  
  116. - CygnusEd now stores the file requester position and dimensions
  117.   in the configuration file. Since the font and screen requesters
  118.   are more sensitive and complex than the file requester, only
  119.   their positions are stored.
  120.  
  121. - CygnusEd no longer tries to use rendering masks with RastPorts
  122.   if the display to use is not palette mapped [Ralph Schmidt].
  123.  
  124. - When launching another instance of itself, CygnusEd no longer
  125.   goes through the code normally used for starting ARexx scripts
  126.   but directly turns to use dos.library/System.
  127.  
  128. - Removed the ActivateWindow() call from the ARexx script
  129.   starting code. This one really shouldn't be necessary.
